A Story Directed by Light
A Day of Shooting Josh Ocean View Villa with
Editorial Storytelling Approach

This photo series documents a full day at Josh Ocean View Villa in Cemagi, Badung, Bali, from dawn to dusk.
Instead of following a fixed shot list, each image was taken when the natural light revealed the best qualities of the space, Morning sun filled the bedrooms, afternoon highlights brought out textures and materials, and sunset framed the villa in warm tones.
The goal was to show how the architecture interacts with changing light throughout the day, creating a natural and editorial-style visual story.

The photoshoot begins when almost everyone is still fast asleep.
But there in the distance, Mount Agung and Mount Batur quietly show their presence.
A stark reminder that they have been standing there long before the villas, the rooftops, or even the ideas of Bali as a destination

As the sun begins to rise, light peeks from the horizon and softens the darkness
The reflection pool captures the changing sky while soft streaks of sunlight creep across the open deck and into the rooms
The day starts in the main bedroom, where soft morning sunlight fills the space through large windows, highlighting the villa's calming interior design.

Next, breakfast is served.
Coffee and toast on the rooftop tastes different when paired with direct ocean views and a soft breeze off the coast.
As morning continues, the villa transitions into remote work mode. The bedroom becomes your office, with a laptop on the bed and the pool just steps away, blending work and relaxation effortlessly

Josh Ocean View Villa sits about 50 meters from the shore of Mengening Beach in Cemagi, Bali.
A peaceful area known for its rice fields and ocean views.
The villa has a simple, modern shape with two main levels and a rooftop area.
From above, you can see how the pool sits right next to the living spaces, with a rooftop deck positioned for sunsets and ocean breeze.

The outside of the villa mixes concrete, natural stone, and warm wood. All materials that fit well with the Bali climate.
Big windows and sliding doors help brings in fresh air and sunlight, while still keeping the inside cool and shaded.
Seen from the street, the villa feels bold and private, with just enough greenery to soften the clean lines of the building
Inside, the villa's open layout makes the most of its surroundings.
Floor-to-Ceiling windows let plenty of natural light, giving the whole space a warm, inviting feel throughout the day.

From the living and dining areas, you can see lush of greenery and catch glimpses of the ocean through the tall palms.
Sliding doors connect indoor and outdoor space, making it easy to enjoy the breeze or step out for a quiet moment on the balcony.
Whether you are reading in the corner or gathering around the dining table, the design keeps things bright, open and connected to nature. Just how a Bali villa should feel

As the sun sets, the villa gives you two great ways to close the day.
Either on the rooftop, looking out toward the beach.
Or on the balcony with your favorite company.
With a cold beer on the table and palm trees silhouetted against the evening sky, it's a moment that feels effortless
Quiet,
Warm,
And exactly what a day in Bali should end like.
This was my personal take on documenting a designed living space like an editorial feature, not a just another AirBnB photoshoot.
From dawn to dusk.
One shadow.
One highlight.
At at time.
